Simulation Facilitator Workshop – 3 Day
Elevate your simulation facilitation skills with this immersive, three‑day workshop designed for educators and simulation technicians who want to confidently facilitate high‑quality, learner‑centered simulation experiences within their institutions.
Built on the latest simulation literature and aligned with the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™ (HSSOBP™), this program reflects more than a decade of experience from one of Minnesota’s pioneering simulation centers. The curriculum emphasizes practical application, reflective practice, and immediately transferable skills.
Participants engage in a dynamic blend of didactic content, group discussion, interactive activities, and hands‑on simulation practice. Core concepts of simulation facilitation are explored through evidence‑based strategies that participants apply in realistic scenarios throughout the workshop.
A signature feature of this course is the opportunity to both facilitate prepared scenarios and design your own. The final day culminates in live facilitation and debriefing experiences, providing meaningful practice and actionable feedback to support continued growth as a simulationist.
Throughout the workshop, participants also rotate through the learner role during scenarios, gaining valuable insight into the participant experience and strengthening their ability to guide others. Experienced simulation faculty share practical tips, lessons learned, and real‑world techniques that translate directly to clinical and academic settings.
What Makes This Workshop Unique
- Multiple breakout sessions: Participants select preferred breakout sessions two weeks prior to the course, allowing the course to be tailored to individual learning goals. Offerings range from advanced debriefing strategies to manikin operation and maintenance.
- Optional observation experience: An additional observation opportunity is available at no additional cost to be scheduled in addition to the three‑day workshop, allowing participants to see our simulation staff in action and observe how facilitation, operations, and debriefing concepts are integrated into real‑world simulation sessions.
- Practice‑focused design: Emphasis on skill development, confidence building, and practical application you can immediately implement at your home institution.
Enrollment & Cancellation Policy
Participants who cancel at least two weeks prior to the course start date are eligible for a full refund.
A minimum of four (4) participants is required to hold the workshop.
If the course is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive a full refund.
Simulation Essentials – 1 Day
This course introduces the purpose and goals of the HealthPartners Institute Clinical Simulation program, designed to enhance patient care, team communication, and clinical decision-making through high-quality, experiential learning. It empowers participants to partner effectively with the HealthPartners Simulation team to deliver impactful simulation-based education.
Learners will explore the core principles of simulation-based education (SBE), understand their roles within simulation—whether as observers, content experts, actors, or co-facilitators—and develop a clear sense of responsibility in each capacity. The course also emphasizes the importance of confidentiality, psychological safety, and the use of standardized facilitation and debriefing practices to ensure effective, learner-centered simulation experiences.
